One Year Later: I Owe Milton Everything

One year ago, I was told I was too young to tutor and too young to run a business. Facing the daunting task of paying for college tuition at Harvard, I printed out hundreds of flyers handing them out to every house in Milton that I could — hoping that someone would believe in me.

Just last month, I watched three of my students proudly walk the graduation stage at Milton High.

Nick was my first SAT student. He went up from 1310 to 1540. Luka scored a 1520 and is now going to Northeastern. Will went from 1200 to 1440 in just one month.

But it's not about the numbers. As I watched them walk the stage, I reflected on how I'm in a unique position to impact people's lives — in one specific thing, but one that I've found really fulfilling nonetheless.

Now, Nick himself has used his extensive knowledge of the Digital SAT to successfully tutor multiple of our students to substantial improvements.

Last month, when I opened a need-based scholarship, one of my students — Kash — made the 170-point jump he needed to receive football recruitment from three Ivy League schools. Moments like these have shown me that I'm directly able to make an impact in people's lives and their futures, and I don't take this lightly.

What's Next

After successfully tutoring more than a dozen students to 200+ score increases, I'm building a summer program geared towards helping students from Milton High, Thayer Academy, BC High, and Milton Academy score high on the SAT and open up their opportunities of getting into top schools.

One year after I took a bet on myself, I'm ready to bet on juniors and seniors who are ready to surprise themselves on the SAT. And I can't help but wonder: who will be our next student who excels and heads to a top school?
